So I was considering the reason people play games this morning, and of course the typical thoughts popped in my head - fun, social connections, feeling more empowered.  I thought more about the last one.  People often play games because they aren't happy with their real lives.  The feeling of a loss of control is pretty common I think.  And that lead me to thinking about one of the most commonly asked questions in human history - what's the meaning of life?  It dawned on me that the question answers itself!

I used to think the meaning of life was to find a mate, have children, and have a career you really enjoy, but I realized those were largely just MY goals.  The goal in life is, I think, simply put, to HAVE meaning in your life.  To have a goal and accomplish it (which may very well take much of your life).  Afterall, when we don't have a sense of purpose, what do we do?  We try to avoid life.  We play games, we run, we read, we watch junk TV, we go to bars and drink, etc.  I'm not saying that's the ONLY reason we do those things, but I think they are often connected.  Without a sense of meaning to our lives, life can become boring, frustrating, depressing.  Of course, it can still become that way even with a purpose, but those feelings will most likely just be fleeting if you do have something to work towards.

Heh, now that I think about it, I've probably always had this idea in the back of my head - just haven't put two and two together in such this way.  Of course, I'm not sure this "ephiphany" will really change my life much, but it was a very interesting line of thought to be had while doing my daily tasks this morning...

How existential of me, eh?  Ah well, I'll try not to let it happen too often... :p
This is a very cool site - so much more here than I knew about in the past.  And for the most part a really nice interface.  Tons of amazing artwork and a lot of really nice people.  It's a nice change from what I'm used to seeing on the internet.
And ahhhh, I can't stop posting artwork!  Well, ok, I'll run out eventually...
So I've been taking a look at some of the latest art submitted, and I noticed a number of female nudes focusing on the genitals and rear.  Now I have nothing against nudes - I love the female form - hell, I've got a nude drawing in my gallery.  However, some of these border on porn to me (not that i have anything against porn) and don't seem to fit in with the rest of the art on this site.

Of course, this is all subjective and open to opinion.  Not to mention, it's certainly not up to me.  It's just something thought caught my attention.  I guess I'd be concerned that it would attract the wrong crowd.  I haven't seen any that were definitely objectionable - they were all relatively tasteful - just more explicit than I'd expect to see on an art site.  Then again, art is all in the eye of the artist (and the beholder, but the artist first and foremost).  Anyone else have reactions to the content?

Oh yeah, and of course I haven't seen any male nudes.  I guess there probably wouldn't be as much interest in making/viewing those, but just another thing I noticed.

[edit]  You know, given the name of this site, I guess it's really not that much of a surprise...
Just joined - don't know why I didn't do this before.  I've known about deviantart.com for years, but I think I always figured my web site (artfoundry.com) was enough.  But it's great seeing others' works and having people comment on mine, which doesn't happen with a personal site.
