Vegas PG as Captain Cold
Vegas PG is an awesome (and really sweet) cosplayer. The photo source of this is my favorite shot of her.

Personal Quote: Have I tried that yet? No? Damnit, another thing to add to the list!
So I was considering the reason people play games this morning, and of course the typical thoughts popped in my head - fun, social connections, feeling more empowered.  I thought more about the last one.  People often play games because they aren't happy with their real lives.  The feeling of a loss of control is pretty common I think.  And that lead me to thinking about one of the most commonly asked questions in human history - what's the meaning of life?  It dawned on me that the question answers itself!

I used to think the meaning of life was to find a mate, have children, and have a career you really enjoy, but I realized those were largely just MY goals.  The goal in life is, I think, simply put, to HAVE meaning in your life.  To have a goal and accomplish it (which may very well take much of your life).  Afterall, when we don't have a sense of purpose, what do we do?  We try to avoid life.  We play games, we run, we read, we watch junk TV, we go to bars and drink, etc.  I'm not saying that's the ONLY reason we do those things, but I think they are often connected.  Without a sense of meaning to our lives, life can become boring, frustrating, depressing.  Of course, it can still become that way even with a purpose, but those feelings will most likely just be fleeting if you do have something to work towards.

Heh, now that I think about it, I've probably always had this idea in the back of my head - just haven't put two and two together in such this way.  Of course, I'm not sure this "ephiphany" will really change my life much, but it was a very interesting line of thought to be had while doing my daily tasks this morning...

How existential of me, eh?  Ah well, I'll try not to let it happen too often... :p
